New Gallery Opening Soon – artists needed!

Our school is excited to be opening a new gallery in the entrance hall and is looking for work from up and coming artists!

The new gallery will be showing work chosen, or created, by the children in our school.

The only catch is that the gallery is very very small – in fact it is in a dolls house!

Mrs Cairns has provided some templates for children to use, but can also use her special magic to shrink any work down to the right size if necessary.

Children can exhibit any type of art that they wish.  There is space for sculpture as well as 2D creations.

NSPCC Assembly and Activity

Recently we worked in our Key Stages to learn what the NSPCC do and how we can talk to trusted adults in our lives to help us ‘Speak Out’ when we need to. We then explored the NSPCC website, and KS1 thought of their ‘happy places’ and KS2 made fortune tellers containing information about the NSPCC and Childline.

Exploring the Welly Day area with Reception class

This afternoon Reception class went into the Welly Day area for the first time. The children were fantastic at listening carefully at how to keep themselves safe and worked together with care. Mrs Cairns took groups into the bird hide and they tried to spot some of our local wildlife. We realised that we needed more binoculars and so the children wrote a letter to Ms McConnell to ask her for some more – and she said yes!

World Book Day Assembly

Year 6 led a World Book Day assembly as they shared their thoughts on reading. They talked about their favourite genres, that they borrow books from the public library or they buy books online and how they read to escape into different worlds and to ‘grow their mind’. Having lwritten their persuasive speeches last week, they used their powers of persuasion to encourage the younger children to read. Well done to Riley who confidently played his Grade 1 piano pieces for classes to come in to. All in all Year 6 did really well. I was proud of them.

A fiery Welly Day in Reception

Mrs Cairns has been promising a fire for Reception class and they have been patiently waiting for some time!  The children demonstrated excellent understanding of how to stay safe around the fire and took great care when toasting their marshmallows.

Art Exhibition

Year 2 ended their Sculpture unit by holding an Art Exhibition. The children had worked hard exploring architecture this half term and then created their own buildings thinking carefully about the purpose and design of the building. They did a marvellous job at speaking about their designs using appropriate vocabulary and the visiting classes asked some thought provoking questions. It was such a lovely way to end the half-term.

Well Done Year 2.

Welly Day in Reception

Reception Class really embraced the chance to be in our Welly Day Area today.  They worked together beautifully and even made their own hot chocolate drinks to enjoy.
