Governor Monitoring – Writing

Earlier this Autumn term, I was privileged to be able to spend some time in lessons with yr 3 and yr 6 pupils. I was familiarising myself with their writing skills and ways in which their class teachers were supporting them to make improvements in this area. Not only was I able to clearly identify how a whole school priority for improvement was being targeted and acted upon within lessons but I was able to witness first hand how motivated, confident and independent many students were when it came to writing tasks. Literacy focussed displays in classrooms and work in pupils’ books offered many opportunities for pupils to build on existing progress that had been made and it was clear the pride and attention to detail that many pupils took with their written work. Pupils thrived in friendly and safe learning environments and behaved with maturity and sensitivity to the views of others. I’m looking forward already to spending more time with yr 3 and yr 6 next term and will be following their progress in this area with great interest.
