Year 2 investigated how long it would take a chocolate button to melt on their tongue compared with in their hand. They predicted what would happen and gave various reasons such as ‘our tongue is hotter than our hand’ and ‘it is hotter on the inside of our bodies compared with the outside of our bodies.’We timed how long the chocolate took to melt. The result was 3 minutes 39 seconds for the chocolate in the hand and only 40 seconds for the chocolate in the mouth. The children closely observed the changes saying things like ‘it is sticky’ and ‘ I can see melting round the edge’. One child tested it by turning her hand upside down and noticing that the button had stuck to her hand. Year 2 made great scientists and had lots of fun too.
