Year 6 Advent at the Cathedral

We have had a fabulous day learning more about Advent in the cathedral. Every child attended four workshops, three in the cathedral and one in the education room.

We heard the story from Mary’s prospective and the long journey she had to make to Bethlehem with Joseph.

Next we learnt about how we mark each day through Advent. As a class the children made an Advent wreath.

The third activity involved meeting a very grumpy shepherd! He told his story and that of the wise men who visited baby Jesus in the stable. We sang a song as we went to the manger and presented gifts. He turned out to be lovely!

The final activity for Year 6 was making an angel. We are going to display these in the classroom as we prepare for Christmas.

It has been a fabulous day of discovery, working in the magical building of the cathedral alongside their dedicated staff. We couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome than we did. A special thank you to the children for being so polite and well behaved, as well as to Mrs Cockburn for organising the day and making it happen.
