This week our science challenge was to use everything we have learned this half term to help us separate a mixture of sand, salt, rice and paper clips. It wasn’t as easy as it sounds! The children worked in teams to plan and solve the problem. They had to use the scientific equipment and were not allowed to pick the bigger materials out with their fingers!

Most groups were quick to separate the paper clips using a magnet and separate the rice using a sieve. However separating the sand and salt was more challenging and there were a few failed attempts- but everyone persevered and solved the puzzle in the end! Great science again Year Five!
