Fun in the Woods

Today the nursery children explored our woodland.

We talked about how we stay safe in the woods and look after our environment, the children were very knowledgeable about the mini beasts and other animals. One child told us “ you don’t hurt them or break their homes cos they will be sad”

Some of the children independently climbed the trees, showing perseverance as they often needed a few attempts. Others ran through the magical paths and looked for mini beasts.

Our favourite moment was when a child climbed a tree and said “ I love trees” and gave it a big hug with a huge smile on her face.🌳

Nursery: Welcome Back

What an amazing first week back at nursery. The children have been very busy settling back in and making new friends.

Our stories this month are  ‘The Three Little Pigs and Home’. The children have embraced this by looking at different homes in our environment, creating pig homes with the play dough and loose parts, den building to create their own home and putting on a puppet and music show for their friends.

Large Scale Weaving

The children have shown interest in tying ropes around posts, so an adult suggested using wool to wrap around the wooden posts.

The children used large balls of wool to wrap around the posts, some of them weaved the wool in and out and others crossed it inside, making ‘a spiders house’ as one child told me.

They were deeply involved in working out all the different ways the wool could be woven through the posts.

One child spent ages inside the web wrapping the wool carefully around itself.

Two very exciting boys negotiated their way through telling me they had made it through the lasers.

A great creative and problem solving activity and easy to do at home.

(Learning for life) Growing our Vegetables

The children have had a busy term working together to help prepare the garden for growing vegetables. They have chosen what they wish to grow and where to plant them. Carefully using the tools they have dug holes to plant the seeds and independently watered them using a variety of different containers.

The garden is open all day so they can access it when they are with us.

So far we have had some delicious strawberries to eat and some scrummy broad beans.

It is lovely to see the pride and care they have taken in the vegetable garden.

It’s okay to be different  a story by Todd Parr

We have been exploring with the children how different and unique we all are. The children have used different media to paint and draw themselves and their friends, talking about the colours of their eyes, hair and skin. It was a lovely way to introduce our children to multiculturalism and diversity.

Nursery Oral Health

Some of the children have been talking about their visitis to the Dentist, so we set up a ‘ keeping your teeth clean station’ learning why it is important for us to look after our teeth. We have learned about what food is healthy and what food we should not eat too much of. The children have practised using a tooth brush on our play teeth. They are all very good at looking after their teeth cleaning them twice a day.

Jubilee celebrations at the nursery

Today has been a day of celebrations for the Queens jubilee. Our parents were invited to join us for our special party.

The children dressed up, made crowns, played games and sang songs to their parents.

What an amazing afternoon it was so special to share this time with our parents.

Thank you all for the amazing cakes.

Bird Watch

We have continued with our bird watch throughout February as the children have shown great interest and curiosity about all the different birds we have in our garden. We have made bird food using lard and seed to hang on the trees, and some of the children brought in feeders from home they had made.Using bird ID sheets and binoculars, made by the children, we went for a walk around the school field and forest area to find some birds to identify. Some of the older children independently marked off the birds they had seen.

Looking after our Environment

One of the children was talking to us about looking after our planet and saving the animals.

We discussed ways we could do this and suggested a walk around the school to look at our environment and see how we can help. After the walk a litter collection was suggested, so we collected our wheelbarrow and gloves and set off to help save the environment and animals who share it with us.

World Book Day 2022

World book day fun in the nursery.

The children dressed up as their favourite book characters. We had some fantastic potato head characters to display and our favourite part of the day a special visit from year six to read our stories.
