The children in the nursery use every opportunity to look at or read stories. It is wonderful to hear them retelling the stories we have read to them in their own way.
Nursery
Listening walk 👂👂
Today the nursery children have been on a listening walk around the school grounds, to support development of their speaking and listening skills.
The adults encouraged the children to listen to the sounds in the environment around them and guess what these might be.
We heard, cars, helicopters, aeroplanes, bangs in the builders yard and lot of bird song.
The children used some wonderful words like ‘ding’ for the sound of the school gate and ‘crunchy’ for the leaves. One child made her own sound by running a stick up and down the metal fence.
What a fun time we had.
Nursery Christmas Dinner
The Children enjoyed there Christmas lunch, it was delicious.
Christmas Party Fun
What a great time was had by all at the nursery Christmas party. We had a lovely party lunch, played pass the parcel and musical bumps, before a visit from a very special person.
It was wonderful to see so many excited, happy faces when Father Christmas came through the door.Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas
Making Gingerbread Cloud Dough
The children have been talking about The gingerbread man, so we suggested making some special gingerbread cloud dough. Together, we looked on the internet to find a recipe. The children worked well, following the adults instructions to make the dough.
- 4 cups of flour
- 3 Tablespoons of cinnamon
- 2 Tablespoons of ginger
- Half a cup of vegetable oil.
They used their hands to mix the ingredients together before tipping it into a tray.
Using their sense of small they experienced the sent of different spices, cinnamon and ginger.
The children explored the dough making marks with their hand and a paint brush. The Older children practiced writing some of the letters in their name.
Why not try it with you child at home…
We’re going on a leaf hunt
After reading the story ‘We’re going on a leaf hunt’ , we took the children around the school field to collect some leaves. We talked about the different colours, smells, sizes and shapes and challenged the children to find the same colour leaves that were in the book. The children were keen to show us what they had found and were fascinated by the holes in the leaves, one child told me it must have been the hungry caterpillar .We had so much fun throwing the leaves up in the air and watching them fall to the ground.
