The children are working in pairs with either a 5 or a 10 number frame and 5 or 10 cubes each. Their task is to make number bonds by placing different amounts of cubes on the number frame, working systematically so 0+5=5 1+4=5 and so on then recording their number sentences
Reception
The Water Cycle in Reception
The children have been learning all about the water cycle this morning. We carried out an experiment to watch this in action before the children created their own representation of the water cycle. They learnt the three key terms – evaporation, condensation and precipitation.
Science in Reception!
We have carried out a fun science experiment this morning to kick our week off.Mr.Whitney asked the children ‘Can you pick up a bottle without touching it?’ The children used the scientific method to see if they could…..it was a fascinating result! Please see our pictures to see what we’ve been up to!
Reception – World Earth Day
As it’s World Earth Day today , Reception class have been discussing ways in which we can help to look after our beautiful earth and keep it happy. They enjoyed a fun activity choosing which pictures made the earth happy or sad. We had pictures that showed water pollution, littering, recycling, turning off lights and many more. This activity sparked lots of comments and opinions from the children and they showed a very mature understanding of the importance of making sure we look after our planet. Beatrice said “Instead of watching tv all the time and using electricity, you could read a book instead.” Great work Reception team
Thankfulness
Our school value this half term has been thankfulness. Here’s our classroom display that’s summarises our learning about thankfulness over the last six weeks. The tree is our ‘giving tree’. Each day the special one tells us something they’ve been grateful for that day and it’s written on a leaf and displayed on our tree. We’ve had lots of lovely thoughts such as, my brother for playing with me, my friends for being kind, to my dog for licking me!
Stone Age Art
Yesterday we made our own Stone Age art. After looking at some real Stone Age art from Lascaux and Chauvet, the children used charcoal and pastels to create pictures of animals they’d hunted. We turned all the lights off and the children were encouraged to use the whole cave (classroom) whilst we listened to some Stone Age music. The children have really enjoyed this topic and have continued playing Stone Age in their independent learning time!
Fossil learning in Reception
On Monday we travelled back to the time of the dinosaurs 250 million years ago! I asked the children how we know dinosaurs existed as there were no humans alive then? They weren’t sure about this, so we’ve been learning about fossils this week. After reading ‘Stone Girl, Bone Girl’ we discussed the importance of fossils, what they tell us and how they are formed. We then went on to make our own dinosaurs fossils using salt dough and the children decided it would be nice to paint them too…. Why not!
