BELIEVE, ACHIEVE, BELONG

Year 2’s Close The Classroom Day Autumn 2024

We spent the morning outside exploring the changes that Autumn has bought to our field. We went on a leaf spotting adventure to discover which trees we have in our school. Next, we went on a natural material hunt and then worked in small teams making insects out of the materials we found. While we were outside, the children found lots of rubbish and were keen to litter pick to improve our environment. This led to them spending the afternoon making posters to encourage everyone in our school to pick up litter and to recycle to prevent waste. These posters will be displayed around the school in the upcoming weeks.

Well Done Year 2.

Y2 Autumn Term

Year 2 have had such a busy half term trying their hands at a wide range of activities which have supported them in learning new knowledge and skills.

They have learned about why light is important to Christians and have explored

the Jewish festival of Hanukkah and The Hinduism festival of light – Diwali.

PE has been lots of fun playing team games, practising ball skills and a highly active version of follow my leader.

One of the class’ favourite topics has been The Great Fire Of London which has sparked lots of curiosity, questions and excitement (especially when role playing putting the fire out using gun powder to blow up houses to prevent the fire from spreading)

There’s one more week of term to go and lots more exciting learning to do.

Well done Y2.

KS1 Cross Country

Today 16 Children from Year 1 and 2 attended the KS1 Cross Country competition at Langley Prep School. The children represented our school fantastically, showing excellent sportsmanship and our school values throughout. Our Year 1 boys ran particularly well taking both 2nd and 3rd place spots, and one of Year 2 boys came 2nd.

As a team they all ran exceedingly well and mostly placed in the top 20, making Stibbard All Saints the Runners Up for the entire event!

Well done to our KS1 team and thank you to Mrs Hobbs and Miss Batchelor for accompanying our children.

Y2 Trip To Cromer

We had a wonderful day in Cromer visiting Cromer Museum where we learned about seaside holidays in the past. The children enjoyed trying on outfits, meeting a Victorian lady and making poppies. After lunch, we went for a walk spotting human and physical features found at the seaside. We finished the trip by going to a playground and having an ice lolly. Thank you to the wonderful adults who joined us on our trip.

Year 2 Voting

After the results of the General Election, Y2 talked about how yesterday people aged 18 and over went to Polling Stations to vote and that the winning party was Labour. The children were able to tell me that Keir Starmer is our new Prime Minister. We had our own vote and had to choose between: 1) To live in a house made of chocolate or a house made of crisps. 2) To have extremely long arms or extremely long legs. The winning results were we would rather have a house made of chocolate and  extremely long arms. A big thank you to Mr Arter for building the Polling Station!

Year 2 Pirates Day

The children had a great day learning about the lives of pirates. They measured the length of a Pirate Ship using metre sticks, carried out pirates’ jobs, such as climbing the rigging to be a look out, being the Captain, Quartermaster and many more. The class then acted out sleeping in small areas with their fellow pirates and imagined how smelly it would be. They tasted dry biscuits and learned about Scurvy, a horrible disease caused by a lack of fresh fruit and vitamins in the pirate’s diet. In the afternoon, the children tested their knowledge of directions, in particular the four compass points (North, East, South, West) and followed instructions to find treasure. Finally, they made their own parrots which were all unique and amazing.

Food Tasting in Year 2

As part of our Design Technology unit this term, the children tried a wide range of healthy foods to allow them to begin to think about ingredients that they would like to use in their own healthy couscous salad. They evaluated the foods they tested according to their taste, texture or both and said which foods they liked or disliked. I was impressed by how many of the class asked for ‘seconds’ and that some children tried foods that they’d never eaten before. Well Done!

Transformation Project

Following on from the children’s roots and shoots creation, they made stick men out of pipe cleaners, then they drew some clothes for them and finally evaluated each other’s. Well Done on your transformations Y2.

Y2 Stick People Project

In Art, Y2 have been looking at turning everyday objects into stick people. They have created these lovely pipe cleaner stick people carrying out a range of activities.

Y2’s Roots and Shoots

As part of this terms Art project, Year 2 recapped their understanding of what seeds need to grow and then they created their own versions of a seed growing roots and a shoot. They used a range of different resources to recreate the seed, roots and shoot and did a really good job.
