We have had a fantastic term learning about pirates and enjoyed drawing and painting our own pictures of pirate scenes.
Year 2
Year 2 Music
Year 2 have been listening to rock music this half term and trying to play their instruments to the beat of the music. As you can see from their faces they were really concentrating and trying to play in time to the music.
Year 2 have been learning about rock music this term. We have tried to listen to the strong beat of the music and clap, stamp and nod our heads in time to the music. We have learnt the song’ I wanna play in your band’ which the children enjoyed performing today.
Norfolk Cricket Session
Year 2 enjoyed a cricket session with Pete from Norfolk Cricket during PE today. Pete had the whole class running around working as a team and practising our balancing skills. Pete talked to the class about the skills we need to throw and catch, before we got a chance to try it for ourselves. By the end of the session, everyone was catching with two hands and some of us had mastered one handed catching or bounce catches too! Everyone in year 2 worked hard on their hand-eye coordination during the session today. What a fun PE lesson – thank you Pete for sharing your love of cricket with us.
Guess who visited Year 2
Last Friday year 2 were lucky enough to meet some very special guests. We were visited by Ed and his menagerie of animals including giant land snails, a tarantula, millipede, bearded dragon and even a milk snake! Year 2 were full of fascinating questions and were very excited to learn new facts about the animals. We were able to use some of our new science language from our animal topic too such as animal groupings. We were very lucky to be able to hold or stroke our special visitors. Thank you Mr Whitney for organising such a fantastic visitor!
The Long Awaited Sea Shanty!
On our pirate day we practised and recorded a popular sea shanty. The children were very enthused by the music and loved singing and dancing to the beat. We are still enjoying singing and dancing to the video when we get a chance.
Year 2 Clocks!
This week we have started learning about time, we have been looking at o’clock and half past times. We have had some exciting lessons, we each made our own clocks from paper plates to use in lessons. We also went outside and made giant clocks on the playground. We worked in teams to make sure our clocks had the numbers in the right places. Miss Flower then challenged us to show different times on our clock.
Soap Carving in the style of Barbara Hepworth
Over the last few weeks year 2 have been learning about Barbara Hepworth’s sculptures and noticed that they all have a hole in the middle. We created designs for our own sculptures and decided on our favourite design. We then transferred our design to bars of soap. Miss Flower taught us how to use the tools safely in readiness for using tools at welly day. We were very careful and persistent as it wasn’t easy to make a hole all the way through our soap. We can’t wait to bring home our finished masterpieces!
Year 2 Welly Day!
We were very excited on Wednesday as we enjoyed our first welly day! We had a nature scavenger hunt to complete in teams. The children were given a clipboard and iPad each and were challenged to photograph each item they found. The children had great fun hunting for minibeasts, exploring outside and having fun with their friends. We can’t wait for next week!
