Year 2 Weekly Roundup

Year 2 have been incredibly busy this week. They have explored balancing in PE; used chrome books to begin typing onto Google documents; retold the key events of The Great Fire of London; assessed the suitability of different materials and had an exciting trip to Holt Country Park and watched a musical adaptation of the story of Izzy Gizmo performed by The Britten Sinfonia.

Well Done to everyone on their hard work this week.

Year 2’s Trip to Holt Country Park

Year 2 had a fabulous morning building shelters and hunting for mini beasts. We even spotted some Great Crested Newts.

In the afternoon, we went to The Auden Theatre and watched a performance of Izzy Gizmo with a mini orchestra. Y2 were amazing and I was really proud of how well they represented our school.

Y2 Making A Healthy Salad

Y2 planned their salad and then made them for their lunch today. They checked their plans and then carefully chose and sliced up the ingredients. The whole class listened to all instructions given on how to safely cut up the vegetables and spent time creating colourful and healthy salads which most chose to eat for their lunch. I was incredibly impressed by how well they did.

Y2 Designing Instruments

In their Art unit, Year 2 designed some amazing instruments using a combination of familiar instruments.

Y2 Trip to Cromer

We had a wonderful day out in Cromer, the weather was beautiful and the children were amazing and represented our school brilliantly. The morning began with 3 activities at Cromer museum: We met a Victorian lady who taught us about beach holidays in the past; we made a poppy souvenir and finally watched a Punch and Judy show which the children loved.

After lunch and an ice lolly, the class played on the playground then went for a walk along the promenade and the pier spotting all the human and physical features that they could see.  Well done to the children and a massive thank you to all the staff who joined us.

Surprise Visit by Norfolk’s Fire Service

Y2 had a fabulous opportunity to meet some firemen and learn what to do in an emergency. They each had a go at using the hose to squirt some wooden blocks and went into the cab of the fire truck.

Direction, Miracles and Cricket in Year 2

Year 2 have worked incredibly hard this week and have been learning about:

  • Movement and direction in Mathematics – they are learning to use language such as, forwards / backwards; left/right; clockwise and anti-clockwise.
  • The parable of Jesus healing the blind man – the children imagined what it would be like to not be able to see around the, and what that may feel like.
  • Cricket – the class practised their throwing, batting and fielding skills with everyone getting a turn at all three activities.

Y2 Pirates Experience Day

Today, Year 2 had a great day imagining they were pirates. They did pirate jobs, they spoke like pirates, they sang pirate songs, they ate a pirate feast, they played pirate games and did pirate art. They all made the most of the day finding out about how pirates from the past lived.

Year 2 Coronation Celebrations

Year 2 came dressed to impress today in their coronation outfits. We had a lovely morning finding out about King Charles III and what will happen in his Coronation on Saturday 6th May. Well done to everyone who made a flag or a crown.
