BELIEVE, ACHIEVE, BELONG

Welly Wednesday with Year 2!

Today we had great fun exploring the mud kitchen, climbing trees and making seed bombs. These are all activities the children requested last time we enjoyed welly day.  Some of our class also found a frog and frogspawn in the pond and were fascinated by how camouflaged the frog was.

We loved getting muddy whilst making our seed bombs. To make our seed bombs we mixed soil, wild flour seeds, plain flour and water to make a sticky gloop.  The children then formed the mud into round seed bombs.  The bombs are currently drying out before being sent home for you to enjoy in your own gardens.

Year 2 Learn the Haka

In PE this half-term we are loving our dance sessions. Each week we are trying different dances that relate to what we are learning in our other lessons whilst working on our balancing and movement too. In Geography we have explored what an island is so it was only fitting to learn the Haka from the island of New Zealand.

Year 2 Self Portraits

Year 2 have been exploring self portraits this half term – understanding how they can be made and why people draw them. We have tried making our own self portraits in many different ways including with loose parts, pencil and watercolour. To draw our fantastic self portraits we looked closely at our faces in the mirror before sketching each feature at a time. This week we painted our portraits and learnt how to mix watercolours, create different intensities of colour and how to choose an appropriate size paint brush for our artwork. We are very proud of our creations!

World Book Day Assembly

Reception, Year 1 and 2 came together to celebrate World Book Day in assembly. Each year group was given the opportunity to parade around the hall and a few children from each class shared with us all what they had dressed up as and a little about their book. Here are a selection of the fantastic costumes worn today. Even the teachers have enjoyed dressing up too!  Thank you for all your effort in supporting such a brilliant day!

World Book Day

Year 2 were very excited today and came in wearing some fantastic costumes for World Book Day. We have been enjoying some book themed lessons this morning. Well done for a fantastic effort today year 2!

Year 2 had “The Best Day Ever”!!

Year 2 enjoyed their first Welly Day session in the Welly area and it was “the best day ever” according to one class member. The class were so excited and played beautifully together; working as a team, problem-solving, thinking creatively and enjoying imaginative role-play.  Throughout the afternoon we had everything from a complex den complete with stick tent pegs, a mud kitchen serving tea and pancakes, a giant spiders web, worry dolls, magic wands and a parkour course!

We all enjoyed a hot chocolate together and for 2 class members this was their first taste. We all conquered lots of fears and barriers throughout our session. Miss Flower and Mrs Jarvis were so proud of Year 2!

Map Skills in Year 2!

Year 2 have started a new Geography topic that helps us develop our map skills and learning how to use a compass. We played a fun game using our new compass skills to find our way across a map.  We learnt how maps can come in man6 different form from atlases, globes, sat navs and more. We then drew our own maps of the school site which I think you will agree are pretty accurate!

Animal Double-page spread

At the end of each half term we complete a double page spread for one of our subjects to share all our knowledge we have gained.  This half term we shared all our fantastic facts about animals.  The children were incredibly proud of their work and wanted to keep writing long past when the lesson was due to finish! Fantastic work year 2!

Dot Art!

Year 2 listened to the story ‘The Dot’ by Peter Reynolds. They were given a dot and tasked with turning it into a picture. Look how creative and unique our pictures are!
