Remembrance Service 2023

It was proud day for All Saints as the whole school held their Remembrance Service in All Saints Church, Stibbard and then at The War Memorial. Year 5 and 6 led the service with Noah taking the lead. We had poems and prayers as well as a song. We were very grateful to Rev Sally who officiated.

At the War Memorial we heard the Roll of Honour and held a two minute silence as we remembered those who had fought and died in the war.

Year 5 and 6 spent time at the War grave of John Thompson, he died of his injuries once he had returned from the war.

We then returned to the church to look at the Remembrance display properly, we were able to read further about the people whose names are on the memorial.

It was lovely to have so many parents and a few villagers joining us for this occasion.

All Saints website Poppy Appeal

Year 6 will be in charge of the Poppy Appeal this week, they will be standing by the year 6 classroom at the start of school and during break time.  Can we please suggest a minimum donation of 50p for the snap bands, keyrings, bands and anything else in the box? The poppies can be a donation of your choice. If you have a safety pin at home please attach the poppy to your child. The sticky poppies are not great at sticking!

Please send your child with their donation safely in a named envelope.

We are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the war memorial on Friday at 10.55am.

Friday at Kingswood

We are now all safely home. Our last day comprised of two activities before we had lunch. One of the activities was Bushcraft – Lighting a fire. The children showed great patience using a flint to light their fires. We also had groups abseiling as well as some experiencing the night line activity where the children had to lead each other around an obstacle course! There was a lot of trust , as well as a lot of giggles.

Well done to all the children, many of them learnt new skills from making their beds with a duvet cover to overcoming their fear of heights. A lot of compassion was shown as we saw children helping each other and perseverance as they strove to succeed. Many of the Kingswood Staff commented on the good manners shown by many children, this always make us proud.

Thursday at Kingswood

We have had a full on day with so many activities. The children have enjoyed building a shelter, puzzle games, abseiling, night line and a huge camp fire this evening.

They have worked well together, encouraged one another and many have really impressed us with their determination to overcome fears.

There will be more photos but for now here is a taster of what has been achieved.

Kingswood Residential year 5/6 children

We have arrived and already completed our first activities. All the children are happy and a little wet due to the continuous rain!

Despite the weather we have been very active outside. The children have enjoyed either experiencing the climbing wall, aero ball or taking part in problem solving activities.

We had a lovely dinner this evening before completing a scrap challenge of designing costumes for a catwalk. The children worked in teams, we were really impressed with so many groups who accepted the challenge and created beyond expectations.

A Little Catch Up

Year 5/6 CB have really settled and found their feet this year. I am so pleased with their attitude to learning and how they are adjusting to being a mixed aged class.

They are showing Compassion towards one another and to those around the school. Today in our DT lesson where we are sewing (normally a very stressful experience) I kept seeing the children helping each other with their knots and stitches.

We also had music today, I was really impressed with how they stayed in time and listened to the pattern they had to repeat, we ended the lesson singing enthusiastically. Well done team CB, I am super proud of you.

Year 5 Science Visit to Fakenham High

Recently the Year 5s visited Fakenham High School to learn how to use a bunsen burner. They had a great time, making scientific observations as well as learn fire safety.

Year 5 Art – Fashion Design

In Art we used plastic mannequins and then cut out different fabrics to design some clothes. Then using PVA glue we stuck the clothes on the mannequins and we added detail using string and strips. We were inspired by Alice Fox, a fashion designer from Norwich, who designed a line of clothing inspired by the seaside. (Noah – Y5 School Parliament)

More Science challenges in Year Five!

This week our science challenge was to use everything we have learned this half term to help us separate a mixture of sand, salt, rice and paper clips. It wasn’t as easy as it sounds! The children worked in teams to plan and solve the problem. They had to use the scientific equipment and were not allowed to pick the bigger materials out with their fingers!

Most groups were quick to separate the paper clips using a magnet and separate the rice using a sieve. However separating the sand and salt was more challenging and there were a few failed attempts- but everyone persevered and solved the puzzle in the end! Great science again Year Five!
