Year 6
Welcome to Year 6
Welcome to Mr Watson’s Year 6 class. We have a spacious classroom which we help to keep organised and we can break out into smaller groups whenever we need to. This is a year of opportunities and greater responsibility as you act as role models for the younger children in the school. We enjoy being play leaders on the playground at lunch times and getting to set up the hall for assemblies and special occasions. We have a wonderful calm corner, filled with bookcases full of beautiful and engaging stories written for all children and their varying interests.
For the Year 6s this is their last year at All Saints Stibbard and we are looking forward to what the future brings. Although there are some nerves about SATs, we understand that we just need to persevere and try our hardest.
Stibbard went red, white and blue today to celebrate our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Seventy years of reigning as our monarch. We paraded in our costumes in our Friday Celebration Assembly and sang The National Anthem. It was lovely to have the whole school together singing again!
Year 6 had a beautiful day to learn and practise their skills of riding on the road. The group were a pleasure to teach according to their instructors. Proud of you year 6.
Year 6 have been inspired by Monet’s cityscapes of London. The children chose one of four modern London scenes, all with dramatic skies. They colour mixed and painted their impressions of what they saw. They did really well!
We have been exploring Monet and how he loved painting cityscapes of London landmarks on the Thames. The children drew Tower Bridge.
This week Year 6 had their first experience of Touch Rugby taught by Soul Phoenix, coach and England Touch Rugby Player. The children were quite baffled as it was their first time but they threw themselves into it and had a good time.
We are so proud of our Year 6 children. They completed their SATS papers this week with calm and positive attitudes. We are sure they have done their best. This photo was taken after they completed the final paper. Their faces say it all! Well done Year 6!
Year Six were working extremely hard in science again this afternoon. They had to measure the brightness of a bulb using data logging equipment and investigate how the brightness changed as they added extra cells to the circuit. It took lots of teamwork and concentration! They found out that the bulb got significantly brighter each … Read more
Year 6 have been reading Wonderland: Alice in Poetry, an anthology of poems edited by Michaela Morgan. Roger McGough wrote a poem entitled Six Impossible Things to do before Breakfast inspired by the conversation between Alice and the White Queen who stated ‘ sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast’. Year 6 … Read more
An ode is a poem written as a tribute to a person, place, experience, idea or thing. They can be short or long, rhyming or non rhyming but they use exaggerated language known as hyperbole. Spot the similes, metaphors and alliteration and the clever layout Stephen used for his Ode to a Marble. Wonderful writing!
Year 6 looked at how Monet choose to paint the Houses of Parliament on the River Thames in different weather conditions and at different times of the day. Monet enjoyed exploring the light as it reflected on the water. The children used pastels to copy Monet’s paintings. They did really well.
